Love

Jesus taught that the greatest commandment is to love God and the second is to love one's neighbour as oneself for God's sake, Mark 12:28-31 His words and deeds challenge and enable people to put this into action.

The Christian vocation is God's call to live the kind of love that Jesus showed. He loved his Father and his friends to the point of being ready to lay down his live for them. Luke, in his gospel, interpreted 'neighbour' to mean all people even those that we do not like or who we consider to be our enemies. Jesus illustrated this teaching with the Parable of the Good Samaritan, Luke 10:29-37

The Good Samaritan - by Vincent Van Gogh

Through the centuries, the men and women who are the Church, the Body of Christ in the World, have tried to respond to Jesus' challenge to love thy neighbour. They have done this as individuals, groups and organisations.
