Unity - The state of being one. Trinity - The belief that God is three in one. Monotheism - Belief in one God. Incarnation - The belief that God became man. Virgin Birth - The belief that Jesus was not conceived through sexual intercourse. Christ - Messiah/anointed one. Crucifixion - A Roman death penalty suffered by Jesus when he was nailed to a cross. Resurrection Being raised from the dead. Fire - A symbol of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost. Wind - A symbol of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost. Dove - A symbol of the Holy Spirit at the Baptism of Jesus Repentance - The act of being sorry for doing wrong and deciding not to do it again. Faith - Belief and trust in something that cannot be proved. Forgiveness - The act of stopping blaming someone and/or pardoning them for what they have done wrong. Reconciliation Making up with someone. Community

Holy Something that is special and sacred in a religious way. Catholic - Universal or worldwide. Also means Christians who are members of the Catholic faith. Apostolic - The belief that the church is founded on the apostles who were appointed by Jesus. Body of Christ - The belief that the church is Jesus' body in the world continuing his work. Communion of Saints - The belief that Christians will live on after death and that living Christians can share with those who have died. Bishops Specially minister who is in charge of a diocese. Priests - Specially called people who are ordained to be ministers of the sacraments. Deacons - Either people training to be priests or specially chosen assistants to priests. Laity - All the people of the church who are not chosen to be Priest, Bishops and Deacons. Celibacy A vow not to marry. Ordination - Making someone a priest by the sacrament of Holy Orders. Bible - The holy book of Christians split in Old and New Testament. Magisterium The teaching authority of the church. Apostolic succession - The belief that the authority given by Jesus to Peter has been handed down by the Pope and bishops. Papacy - The job of Pope. Dogmas The defined beliefs of the Catholic Church. Chrism - Oil used at baptism and confirmation. Vows - Solemn promises. Penitential rite - The confession of sins at the beginning of mass. Liturgy of the word - The bible readings at mass. Liturgy of the Eucharist The second part of the mass. Rite of communion - Exchanging peace and receiving bread and wine. Sacrifice - To surrender something for the sake of others. Real presence - The belief that Jesus is really present in the bread and wine of the Eucharist. Transubstantiation - The belief that the bread and wine change into the body and blood of Jesus while outwardly appearing as bread and wine. Tabernacle - The box used to hold and store the consecrated hosts. Contrition - Sorrow for the sin committed and deciding not to sin again. Penance - an action to show your contrition. Absolution - A pronouncement by God freeing you from your sin. Viaticum - The communion given to prepare someone for death. Advent - festival preparing for Christmas. Christmas The season celebrating the birth of Jesus. Epiphany - Festival celebrating the baptism of Jesus, which includes the visit of the three, kings. Lent A time of preparation before Easter. Holy Week - The week beginning with Palm Sunday remembering the last week of Jesus life. Easter - The festival celebrating the resurrection of Jesus. Easter Tridium The time from Maundy Thursday to the Easter vigil. Living the Christian Life
Ten commandments - The ten rules for living given by God to Moses. Sermon on the Mount - The rules for Christian living given by Jesus. Displaying religion - Making a show of your religion. Judgement - The acting of judging people and their actions. Golden rule - The teaching of Jesus that you should treat others, as you would like them to treat you. Service - Showing Christian values by helping other people. Compassion Caring about the suffering of others. Concern - To show compassion by becoming involved in other people's distress. Justice Being treated fairly. Oppressed - Those who are made to suffer or are exploited by others (especially by governments and the rich and powerful.)

In God
Numinous The feeling of the presence of something greater than you Conversion When your life is changed by giving it to God. Miracle Something, which seems to break the law of science and makes you think only God, could have done it. Prayer To communicate with God. Design Evidence for Gods existence in the design of the world. Causation When things are started and seem to have a purpose. Agnosticism Not being sure of whether God exists. Atheism Believing God does not exist. Moral Evil Actions done by humans that cause suffering for example murder. Natural evil Things that cause suffering but have nothing to do with humans for example earthquakes. Omnipotent The belief that God is all-powerful. Benevolent The belief that God is
good/kind. Omniscient The belief that God knows everything that has happened and everything that will happen. Theodicy A way of explaining why there is suffering made in a world by a good all-powerful God. Matters
of Life and Death
Resurrection After death nothing happens until a time in the future when the dead will be brought back to life and be given an immortal body. Immortality of the soul The belief that humans have a body and soul, which survives death, and after death enters a spiritual state where God is. Purgatory A place where Catholics believe souls go to be made clean of sin. Heaven A place of paradise where God rules. Hell A place of horrors where the devil rules. Paranormal Something strange that cannot be explained for example ghosts. Sanity of life Believing that life is special and made by God. Abortion The removal of the foetus from the womb before it can survive. Euthanasia An easy and gentle death. Assisted suicide Providing a seriously ill person with the means to die. Voluntary euthanasia - The situation where someone is dying in pain asks a doctor to end his/her life painlessly. Non-voluntary euthanasia Ending someones life painlessly when they are unable to ask, but you have a good reason for thinking that they want to. Contraception Preventing conception from occurring. Marriage

Cohabitation Living together without being married as if you are married. Marriage When a man and a woman are legally united. Faithfulness - Only having sex with the person you are married to. Pre marital sex Sex before marriage. Promiscuity Having sex with a number of partners without commitment. Adultery An act of sexual intercourse between a married person and someone they are not married to. Annulment The church saying the marriage never happened. One or both of the couple did not mean their vows. Re marriage Marrying again after being divorced from a pervious marriage. Nuclear family Mother, father and children living together as a family. Extended family Children, parents, and grandparents/aunts/uncles living as a family. Re constituted family Where two sets of children (step brothers and sisters) become one family when their divorced parents marry each other. Homosexuality Sexual attraction to the same sex. Social
Harmony
Equality Everyone having equal rights regardless of gender/class/race. Sexism Discriminating against people because of their gender (being male or female.) Multi ethnic society Many different race and cultures living together in one society. Prejudice Judging someone without knowing them. Racism Putting prejudice into practice and treating people in a different way because of their race/gender/colour/class. Discrimination The belief that some races are better than others. Racial harmony Different races/colours living together happily. Multi faith society Many different religions living together in one society. Religious freedom Accepting all religions as have a right to express their beliefs.
